The investigative series, 60 Minutes, is the most successful broadcast in U.S. television history and has been on the air since 1968. The show has become an indispensable part of American history with its 40 years of broadcasting on CBS.

Although 60 Minutes covers a wide variety of topics, its main focus is to investigate and interview or attempt to interview those key people who may be part of a larger conspiracy or secret the show tries to unravel. Common themes include corrupt officials, politicians, corporations, economic problems, or celebrities who are either caught in scandals/criminal investigations or those who just want to publically clear their names. Armed with cameras, 60 Minutes goes to work on these types of allegations and tries to reveal The Truth.

60 Minutes has no music theme, only a stopwatch ticking as 60 minutes counts down from the start to finish of the show. The show’s producer Don Hewitt chose a journalistic magazine style approach for the show. Typically, the theme is serious up until the parting thoughts by Andy Rooney. In a few minutes with Andy Rooney, Rooney comes up with some cynical commentary about something that confuses him such as the outdated semi-colon, irritating cell phone ring tones, food packaging, sports mascots, and hundreds of other topics.
