Good Morning America is a morning talk show airing on ABC, where it first premiered back in November of 1975. Being a morning talk show, the format differs from a late night talk show. The main focus of Good Morning America is on the news of the day, though it does feature a variety of entertainment everyday; including music, interviews, cooking segments, and a whole lot more. Since its inaugural year, Good Morning America has steadily gained in viewership, fighting for first place with NBC’s morning talk show Today.
As many variety shows that have survived as long as ABC’s Good Morning America, the hosting seat has switched owners numerous times. Many great names have come through these hosting positions; with one of the most famous being
Diane Sawyer, who has gone on to host the ABC news program ABC World News. Other notable hosts include
David Hartman,
Joan Lunden,
Charles Gibson,
Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos.
Good Morning America has also won its fair share of awards. The Daytime Emmy Awards awarded the first three years of their Outstanding Morning Program award to Good Morning America. Other awards mentions include a GLAAD Media Award for ‘Outstanding TV Journalism Segment’ in 2010.
