MacGyver was a television series that ran during the years 1985 to 1992.
Richard Dean Anderson starred as the title character, Angus MacGyver, a secret agent who was known for his resourcefulness and ability to get out of any jam by rigging up devices or equipment with whatever materials were available. The only other character that regularly appeared on the show was Pete Thornton, MacGyver's best friend who often helped him when he was in trouble. Pete was played by Dana Elcar.
During its 7 season run, MacGyver was nominated for several awards, including Emmys. However, the only awards the show won were the BMI TV Music Award and the Genesis Award, both in the year 1991. Despite its lack of awards, the show had many loyal fans. In fact, the show became so popular that to MacGyver something became a slang term for building or rigging something up from scratch with items not specifically intended for that purpose.
MacGyver has been released on DVD. Because of this, fans of the show can watch their favorite episodes again, or introduce their children to the secret agent who can make anything out of nothing at all.
