In 1992, a new night time soap opera debuted, this time it was Melrose Place! With some assistance from Kelly Taylor of
Beverly Hills 90210 and Jake Hanson of Melrose Place, viewers were quickly transported from the Hills to an apartment complex, named Melrose Place in Los Angeles. This time, the residents of these apartments were young aspiring adults with their own hopes and dreams of making it in the real world. Some had higher hopes than others, some also did not care who they had to hurt in order for them to achieve their own goals. Melrose Place gave us this inside look of their lives, relationships, and how caddy this apartment complex really was!
At the beginning of the series, eight main characters were followed on Melrose Place. Dr. Michael Mancini, played by
Thomas Calabro and his wife, Jane, played by
Josie Bissett, were quite the opposites attract couple. He was extremely dedicated to the hospital he worked at and she wanted to start her own fashion line.
Billy Campbell, played by Andrew Shew, was a taxi driver by day, but had his heart set on writing. Alison Parker, played by
Courtney Thorne-Smith, was a secretary at the local advertising firm and later became Billy's roommate.
Jake Hanson, played by
Grant Show, was an auto and motorcycle mechanic.
Matt Fielding, played by
Doug Savant, was a social worker.
Rhonda Blair, played by Vanessa A. Williams, was an aerobics instructor and finally Sandy Harling, played by
Amy Locane, a struggling actress and who worked part-time at Shooters, the local hang out.
Many of these original characters quickly were dropped and new characters were put into place to keep the ever-changing story line going in the right direction.
