How many times were you in Math class as a child or teenager asking yourself, "How am I ever going to use this in real life?" Well, don't let Charles Eppes, Mathematician extraordinaire of Numb3rs hear you asking that. Numb3rs showcases the Eppes family who consist of Don Eppes (FBI Special Agent), Charles Eppes (Mathematical Genius/Consultant to the FBI), and Alan Eppes (Father). The main focus of the show is through the happenings of the FBI and each episode starts with a situation where Don inevitably turns to his brother for help.
His brother, along with Amita Ramanujan (Mathematician in her own right and Girlfriend of Charles) and Larry Fleinhardt (Charles' Mentor), take on the case from a mathematical point of view trying to determine the safest and efficient way to either save victims or capture suspects.
Airing in January of 2005 on CBS, the shows creators, Nicolas Falacci and Cheryl Hueton, have received numerous awards including the
Carl Sagan Award for Public Understanding of Science in 2006. Because each episode deals heavily with complex math and scientific theories, the show hosts a slew of Consultants to aid in the accuracy of each show.
Providing something completely unique to the audience, Numb3rs gets the audience involved in the process, making them feel part of the solution.
