Smallville depicts the Superman story through the eyes of Clark Kent rather than the man of steel himself. The first season begins with a high school Clark living with Martha and Jonathan on the Kent farm.
Tom Welling who plays the man of steel gets to live out the high school experiences from a super human perspective. As Clark goes through his high school years he begins to develop his powers and learn how to properly control them.
Besides Clark Kent there is also a love interest Lana Lang, and the close friends of Cloe Sulivan and Pete Ross. Throughout the series Clark has to struggle with the normal high school problems and dealing with the fact that he is superhuman, there is often a debate amongst himself as to whether he should reveal his secret to his friends and to the world which makes for a great section of the Superman saga.
What makes Smallville such a great series is the long running story line that is set to premier the ninth season in September 2009. While Smallville has gotten on in years there is never a dry episode in the season, and it is always enjoyable to go back and watch the first couple seasons and the drama that ensues.
So overall if you are a fan of Superman and are looking for a series to both take you back and open your eyes to a different view of the man of steel then check out what Smallville has to offer.
