The Big Bang Theory is a show about a couple of twenty-something scientists who live across the hall from a beautiful wannabe actress.
Leonard Hofstadter (
Johnny Galecki) is an experimental physicist who is slightly more of a normal guy than his roommate or his friends. His roommate is the former child prodigy turned theoretical physicist Sheldon Cooper (
Jim Parsons) who is hilariously socially awkward. Their friends include Howard Wolowitz (
Simon Helberg), a flamboyant dressing engineer who thinks he is a ladies’ man but lives with his mother, and Rajesh Koothrappali (
Kunal Nayyar), an Indian particle astrophysicist who is incapable of speech around attractive women without the aid of alcohol.
Leonard and Sheldon's neighbor is Penny (Kelly Cuoco of "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter" fame), an aspiring actress who works as a waitress at The Cheesecake Factory. She moved to California from Nebraska to follow her dream and doesn't quite fit in to a crowd of scientists. Penny is kind and caring and knows almost about pop culture as the guys know about comic books.
The Big Bang Theory won the 2009 TCA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Comedy.
Jim Parsons also won the 2009 TCA Award for Individual Achievement in Comedy for his role as Sheldon. The Big Bang Theory also received three nominations for this year's Primetime Emmys.
When people that are so different socially collide, who will rub off on whom? The Big Bang Theory attempts to find out.
