The Event is a one hour drama series on NBC about Sean Walker (played by
Jason Ritter) who is investigating the sudden disappearance from a cruise ship of his fiancée Leila (played by Sarah Roemer). While he is looking into her disappearance he discovers the U.S. Government is hiding from the public an alien cover-up that could affect the entire world and the future of humans. This information was also being kept from the President of the United States, Elias Martinez (played by Blair Underwood).
The Event begins at the end of World War II, when a ship of unknown origin crashed in the Brooks Range in northern Alaska. The passengers appeared human, but were determined to be aliens. Their DNA is slightly different from humans and they age at a much slower pace.
Some of the survivors were captured by the U.S. government and held in a secret facility by intelligence agencies because they refused to reveal information about their origin. The leader of the detainees is Sophia Maquire (played by
Laura Innes) who becomes an important connection to the President. Survivors, also known as sleepers, were able to escape and now live in the general population.
