The Mentalist is a crime drama with a spin. California Bureau of Investigation’ Senior Agent, Teresa Lisbon, has her traditional rule-following unit turned upside down when profiler Patrick Jane, played by Golden Globe Award nominee
Simon Baker, joins the team. With a past profession as a self-admitted fake psychic, Jane has an uncanny ability to read people and solve even the most twisted cases. His unconventional, and often job-threatening methods, tend to incur a berating by Lisbon, who is played by
Robin Tunney.
The tragic loss of his wife and daughter to a slighted
Serial Killer are what motivates Jane. He has a dark and childish side that is hidden by a charming and witty persona. His knack for reading people allows him to put those being interviewed at ease causing them to unknowingly admit tiny details that help crack the case, and sometimes exposing their own guilt.
The unit is comprised of serious but wise-cracking Kimball Cho (
Tim Kang), wide-eyed and innocent Wayne Rigsby (
Owain Yeoman), and rookie Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti). While the team admires Jane’s talent as The Mentalist, they often deal with him cautiously and dread being the one assigned to a case with him.
