The
Steve Harvey Show ran on The WB Television Network from August 1996 to February 2002. The show stared
Steve Harvey who played Steve Hightower who was a funk legend in the 70’s and now a teacher at a high school in Chicago.
During the seasons budget cuts at the high school brought Steve Hightower to teach drama, and art classes. The high school coach Cedric Robinson was played by
Cedric the Entertainer.
The Other primary character was the principal Regina Grier who was played by Raquel Robinson. Throughout the course of the show Steve Hightower would call her “Piggy” since she was fat as a kid.
The "
Steve Harvey Show" was based around Steve Hightower and the relationship with his students and his change to becoming a role model. Throughout the series there were challenges with Regina Grier helping and harming as the eventual love interest.
Throughout the series we would see appearances of the “Steve Hightower and the High Tops”.
The Band would play their two feature songs “Break Me off a Piece of That Funk” and “When the Funk Hits the Fan”.
The
Steve Harvey Show last six seasons and ended so
Steve Harvey could pursue other products. During the series run it won numerous NAACP Image Awards including Outstanding Comedy Series in 2002 and
Steve Harvey won Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series in 2001 and 2002. The show made its way to syndication in September 2002. You can still find the show in local markets.
