I bought this unit off E - Bay as I had one when I was a kid it was in pretty good shape to look at but had no forward drive for the play back or record two problems first no power to do with switch fixed that then speed ran too fast but had record and play plus some audio hum on ac power their was battery acid leaked all over the mechanicals which had to be totally taken out and cleaned I also replaced a spring on the motor drive ( " this is rim drive " ) which is close to whats needed but a little tight speed is close to what it should be now their is some flutter but I think as this new spring breaks in it will get better also replace a capacitor on the motor it helped considerably on filtering the motor noise I need to do more but no time I noticed it played tapes back really pretty well made on my Teac X1000r at 3 3/4 speed usually this doesnt happen with a rim drive so I think its still a tad fast but it does work and brings back a lot of memorys anyone know where to get parts? oh and as CassetteMaster Ricky Kline would say its DC Biased.
