These tiny tree frogs emit a two part sound Ko - qui ! They are so abundant that, especially after a rain, it sounds like a symphony. If the land is damp they start around 4 pm, a little bit and move into full 'sound' after dark. It is a mating call and they need dampness to lay eggs so the sound is always intensified by rain, its loudest just after a rain. There are over 17 varieties of Coquis and they each make different sound.
