This is an application I put together that loads a 3D object I modeled and replaces your desktop cursor. It is also audio reactive. I view it as a bit of an art piece and a desktop toy that plays off a humdrum part of day-in-day-out computing; the desktop cursor. The application was built with Kineme Quartz Builder, and the basic metal hairball was programmed with Quartz Composer. It uses the kineme3D loader and distortion patches to achieve a great deal of the texture, and I wrapped it in a standard image map GLSL. I used GL Tools Polygon Mode wireframe to get the wiry metal hair look going. This was built so that the ball is on floating level. I’ve done a variation where it is hiding under the desktop as well, and also where the standard mouse cursor is also present. I think I'm leaning towards the metal hairball plus standard cursor combo, and adding some drag effect so that the hairball seems to lag and follow the regular cursor.... making it seem to have a bit of a mind of it's own. I'll post my results with that when I hone it in. This isn't really where I want it to be at, it gets a tad too large, and doesn't "deflate" quite fast enough... pretty trivial things that I'll reign in later. "Down and dirty" screen grab.
