iReport — I have an amazing news story about my dog Rosie, who saved a Husky from being hit by car traffic last weekend in NYC, NY. If you ever want a really amazing story about a dog saving another dog, here it is: I arrived at this Husky owner’s house to give a first dog training lesson. Literally within minutes of talking with my client did the Husky escape from the backyard after digging a hole under the fence. This Husky has never had training before, so he was running down the street to one of the largest highways of NYC - the Grand Central Parkway. The owner lives a block away from the ramp that leads onto this highway. And the Husky, untrained and unaware of where he was, ran directly toward the highway ramp. The owner then ran after his dog to catch him. And it was so obvious that he'd never catch his dog, and that his dog would get hit by a car - A SECOND TIME. So what did I do? It was sheer gut instinct. I get my little Belgian Malinois puppy, the breed that is often used in Military and Police K-9 service, and I called her out of my car from a distance. I pointed to the Husky and told my dog, "GET HER!!!" That's a herding voice command I use to tell my dog to go chase and catch whatever I'm pointing to. So off goes my darling dog, racing at top speed toward the husky. She quickly passed the Husky owner and finally caught the Husky and began herding him toward the owner's house. Then I immediately called my dog back to me (from a distance of over 500 feet), and she came speeding back with the excited Husky chasing after her. Finally the Husky stopped within ten feet of me, but started to get hip to the scenario and turn back to the highway. So I knew I couldn't go over and reach the Husky without him bolting away again. So I told my dog to run by my side in a heel position all the way back to the owner's house with me. This got the Husky thinking he was chasing both of US and we let him win when we got back to the owner's backyard. Every dog is...
