Agritopia is a mixed use community. This means that it is not strictly a residential development. There are also gardens, stores, educational facilities, restaurants, churches, and other uses as a part of the plan The community of Agritopia was designed to be a neighborly community built around an urban farm. The development of Agritopia attempts to solve several problems common in current development neighborhoods lacking character and livability and the complete elimination of Arizona's agricultural heritage. The Agro-Commercial area of Agritopia is a development of the Johnston family homestead area. Each existing building has been preserved by converting it to a new use compatible with an urban setting. The businesses in these renovated buildings all have a tie to the farm in on way or another. The first businesses that have developed are Joe's Farm Grill and The Coffee Shop.
