This was filmed with a Sanyo WH1 Waterproof HD consumer camera which is due to release in mid-April 2009. It’s a 720p HD camcorder/2MP digital camera which is waterproof up to 10 feet! It records onto a SDHC card which is inserted into a water sealed compartment beneath the LCD side. This was filmed in a 9 foot pool. MY RATINGS: VIDEO QUALITY (HD): 6.5 It pretty much matches the quality of the Flipcam HD, which isn't bad. However there are better pictures out there. SOUND QUALITY: 7 I would say this sounds slightly better than the Flipcam HD on dry ground. Underwater however, it's underwater... all you hear is "bloop bloop bloop" with an occasional water pop. EASE OF USE: 9 It's super easy to use. Since there aren't many custom features, you'll learn it all in a matter of minutes. FEATURES: 6 The features are very basic, yet understandably so. Manual adjustments underwater can be very difficult considering your environment will change quicker around you than on land. I shot this when the light was already off the pool, so I'm sure it'll look twice as good in tomorrow's shoot when the light is there. With that said, leaving the camera on "auto" didn't bother me a bit. DURABILITY: 8 Even though the camera is a waterproof camera, I feel that some issues may occur with some of the components (mainly the LCD screen and compartments) when people forget to close them properly. Also, if you leave the camera in the heat then take it with you into the colder water, it may effect the water seals. The best advice I could give it so keep the camera out of direct sunlight if you plan on bringing it into water. I rated it an 8 because I think the camera will hold up fine if you're nice to it. BATTERY LIFE: 7 With over 3 hours of battery life, there's not much to worry about. Although I do wonder about the long term life since you can't switch out the battery if it dies out. VALUE: 10!!!! Yes, a 10! If you want to buy another waterproof camera, you're going to need a good waterproof casing which can cost anywhere from $1000-$3000 depending on the camera you buy. Sure, there are waterproof camcorder bags out there for cheap, but they're really not reliable and don't allow you to interact with your camera as well underwater. Especially if you want to see yourself in the LCD while you're swimming. This camera gives it to you without needing a bag or case and still has a good enough "dry" quality to stand up to other consumer cameras like the popular Flipcam HD. OVERALL: 8 This is a one of a kind camera that can do things for you that nothing else on the market can right now. If you plan on expanding your video making into rain, snow, or water then you should DEFINITELY pick up this camera. It's loads of fun!!! Sanyo sent me this camera to test out it's features and durability and of course to promote it's upcoming release. As far as I know, this is the only WH1 that exists in the US. It's pretty easy to use considering they forgot to send me the manuals, lol. I set the camera up with manual settings for this shot, but auto looks great too. In fact, auto may look better because I didn't really get a chance to fully test the manual settings until now. Tomorrow I'll be out at the pool again to shoot the actual video... a new interactive video challenge : ) This video was just a test, but the full video will be released on YouTube on Monday. What do you think so far? Would you buy it?]]>
