I took my Panasonic Lumix TZ5 to Roath Lake to test the HD quality video. It records in Quicktime Photo JPEG codec at 30 frames per second at 1280 x 720 pixels. The audio is only 8bit. However, image quality is pretty impressive for a stills camera and I've edited the footage together from the various clips I filmed, including some footage of my laced and pencilled Wyandotte chickens to see the detail of the feathering. I have compressed this with Quicktime H264, so the grain of the Photo JPEG originals isn't as present, and I haven't included audio because it was very tinny. I compressed this to an AVCHD disc at 720p to play on my Blu Ray player and the footage looks fantastic compared to the computer screen, even on a 42" TV screen. I'm very impressed with the picture quality but as mentioned before the audio is poor and I would have liked a PAL option at 25 fps seeing as I live in Europe. I can't really complain, though, for a camera that films as good quality as this for around £180 as well as being a 9MP stills camera. It's not going to replace a camcorder but it's great for the convenience of HD video in your pocket.
