Better With You is a half-hour-long comedy created by Shana Goldberg-Meehan. It focuses upon two sisters who are at different points in their lives. Mia, portrayed by
Joanna Garcia-Swisher, is the younger sister, while the older sister is Maddie, played by Jennifer Finnegan. The series debuted in September of 2010.
On Better With You, Mia and Maddie are both beautiful women who have complex lives. Maddie has been in a long-term relationship with Ben, played by
Josh Cooke, for nine years, and they are content to cohabitate. Neither of them thinks that marriage is particularly important, at least at this point in their lives. However, Maddie's world turns upside-down when Mia tells her that she is headed for the altar with Casey, played by
Jake Lacy. Casey and Mia haven't even known each other for two months, so her older sister is shocked.
Maddie disapproves of Mia's decision, but their parents, Joel and Vicky, played by
Kurt Fuller and
Debra Jo Rupp, think it's a great idea, even though their own marriage is far from perfect after 35 years together. Better With You, then, is not only the story of the sisters but also of the parents who raised them.
The series underwent several title changes before Meehan finally settled on Better With You, which is a suitable title as each of the main characters must decide if things are, in fact, better with his or her chosen partner. Many laughs ensue as they struggle to figure this out together.
