HBO presents the extremely funny comedy show entitled Eastbound & Down, which stars
Danny McBride, the multi-talented actor who co-starred in several extremely successful feature films like Superbad, Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express, as Kenny Powers. Gary Sanchez Productions, the production company of funnyman
Will Ferrell, premiered the show on February 15, 2009.
In Eastbound & Down, Kenny is an ex- professional baseball pitcher, who had a tumultuous major league career that ended in expulsion from the league. He then finds himself in the demeaning position of having to accept a job as a middle-school substitute teacher in his hometown of Shelby, North Carolina.
The second season of Eastbound & Down started in May 2010 and Mexico became the new locale, with shooting actually taking place in Puerto Rico. There were also some changes to the cast, including Ana de la Reguera as Kenny's new girlfriend and
Michael Peña as the owner of a Mexican baseball team. The second season also introduced veteran actor and Golden Globe Award winner for his role as Sonny Crockett on Miami Vice,
Don Johnson, as Kenny's father. The first season supporting cast members only participated in the second season in some cameo roles, with the exception of the Stevie Janowski character, played by
Steve Little. Ferrell has a recurring role in the series, as do
Katy Mixon as April Buchanon, major motion picture leading man
Matthew McConaughey as Roy McDaniel, T.V. and film star
Don Johnson as
Eduardo Sanchez Powers and
Ben Best as Clegg.
