The HBO drama “In Treatment” delves deeply into the care a psychologist provides his patients. The show stars actor
Gabriel Byrne, who is known for award winning films such as “The Usual Suspects” and “ In the Name of the Father.“ Byrne’s character Paul is a psychologist and each episode depicts his weekly therapy sessions with one of his patients. Paul is also seeking therapy for his own issues from Gina, who treated him 10 years ago and is portrayed by iconic actress
Dianne Wiest.
Paul is charming and insistent in treating his patients. He becomes overly involved with them on a personal level and struggles to keep an appropriate distance from them emotionally.
The ambitious first season of “In Treatment” included 43 episodes with each episode broadcasting on a different week night from Monday through Friday. The first season revealed nine weeks of therapy for the majority of the patients.
The following two seasons changed to Paul focusing on three new patients, two he sees on Monday and the third one he meets with on Tuesday. Paul also meets with his psychotherapist on Tuesday nights.
