It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is a sitcom that premiered on FX in 2005, and continues to run on FX – and keeps gaining fans as it goes. It’s Always Sunny was created by three friends, who also star in the show.
Rob McElhenney,
Glenn Howerton, and
Charlie Day created this cult favorite, which went through a few changes before it actually hit the air (such as locating from LA to Philadelphia and making the characters bar owners instead of actors).
The story of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia follows a group of friends, who are not exactly the most upstanding citizens. This group consists of the three bar owners of Paddy’s Pub, Dennis Reynolds (Howerton), Mac (McElhenney), and
Charlie Kelly (Day), an Irish pub in Philadelphia that does not do that well, which is what the show’s plot on occasion revolves around. The rest of ‘The Gang’ are Dee Reynolds (
Kaitlin Olson), the main bartender at Paddy’s Pub, and her father, Frank Reynolds (Danny DeVito).
These characters are typically amoral individuals, with their only goal in life being to better themselves. This one track mind leads the characters of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia into zany adventure after zany adventure, each one seeming almost more over-the-top than the last. These adventures often find ‘The Gang’ injuring themselves, or others, and usually do not pan out well for anybody. The humor in It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is an entertaining mix of physical humor as well as clever writing.
