Rome was an HBO original series that followed the lives of Roman citizens during the 1st Century B.C. It was a two year series with season one airing in 2005 and season two airing in 2007. It focuses on the Roman time period where they are switching from a Republic to an Empire. The show is very loosely based on true historical events.
The plot is fantastic and original. The series Rome is centered on the lives of two Roman soldiers.
Kevin McKidd plays Lucius Vorenus and
Ray Stevenson plays Titus Pollo. The adventures of these two soldiers are intertwined with important historical events taking place in Rome. This provides viewers with a unique perspective on these events from the eyes of common soldiers.

This provides a unique mixture of story lines from poor soldiers to the rich nobility.
The rich story lines and great character development helped Rome become an award winning show. In 2006 the show won 4 Emmy Awards out of 8 nominations and it was also nominated for a Golden Globe award in the Outstanding Television Series - Drama.
