SpongeBob SquarePants is an animated Nickelodeon television series based on several unusual underwater creatures that live in a fictional town known as Bikini Bottom. The main character, SpongeBob, is a square, yellow sponge that is usually seen sporting a white dress shirt, a red tie, brown pants, white striped socks and black dress shoes. SpongeBob is a happy go lucky little guy that often finds himself in a quandary, despite his best intentions. Life is filled with great adventure for this porous little sea creature, alongside his fellow Bikini Bottom dwellers, Patrick Star, Squidward Tentacles, Mr. Krabs, Plankton and Sandy Cheeks.

SpongeBob lives in a pineapple with his pet snail, Gary. His daily routine includes getting up early and heading off to work at the Krusty Krab restaurant, where he takes great pride in the delicate process of creating the perfect krabby patty burger. SpongeBob SquarePants began airing on May 1, 1999, and achieved extreme popularity, quickly landing at the top of the ratings. Created and produced by Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants has earned seven Golden Reel Awards, four Annie Awards, one Emmy Award, eight Kid’s Choice Awards as well as others. This highly successful cartoon is now in its ninth season and continues to entertain audiences of all ages.
