Top Chef: Masters is a competitive reality show on the Bravo Network. The show is hosted by Chef
Curtis Stone who is known for being the host of the show “Take Home Chef”. All of the contestants that appear on Top Chef: Masters are established chefs that are referred to as “masters” of the culinary arts. The difference between this show and other competitive cooking shows is that these chefs are competing for money for charity whereas contestants on other cooking shows want to win money to open their own restaurants.
The show’s format includes two cooking challenges each day. The first challenge is a quick fire challenge. These challenges require that the chef’s cooks a dish using specified ingredients in thirty minutes or less. The judge for the quick fire challenge is a guest to the show and the winner is given $5,000 for their charity and receives immunity in the elimination challenge.
The elimination challenge often requires that each chef cook one individual dish but in a team environment. The chefs are often put under pressure like being required to create a seven course meal together for one hundred guests but each meal has severe calories restrictions. The judges for the elimination challenges include
Curtis Stone,
James Oseland and
Ruth Reichl. There are three possible winners and three possible losers after the challenge is completed. The winner of the challenge receives $10,000 for their charity and the loser is eliminated from the Top Chef: Masters competition and leaves.
