Tyler Perry's House of Payne is a situation comedy created and produced by director/playwright/actor
Tyler Perry. It chronicles the life of Pops Payne and his immediate and not so immediate family in Atlanta. Pops Payne works as a fire house chief with his son and recently divorced nephew, CJ. CJ also lives with Pops Payne and his wife; Ella. CJ's two kids completes the family and adds to the funny and sometimes sentimental drama.
Tyler Perry's House of Payne characterizes the funny but real portrait of black family life. In the premiere the show, CJ is faced to deal with his wife's infidelity as well as her unknown drug use.
After it is all said and done, CJ is forced to live with Pops and Ella at their home; which doesn't go well with Pops. The cranky Pops adds to the humor with smart, witty wisecracks and schemes to get CJ and his kids back on track and most importantly; out of his house!
The show touches on sensitive issues in the black community with a sense of honesty that is really seen on television. The subject matter of religion, sexuality and stereotypes fuel the storyline but is betrayed brilliantly in a humorous debate often times taking place with Pops at the helm.
Tyler Perry's House of Payne is a very funny and entertaining 30 minutes for all audiences. The showdowns in its second season and can be seen regularly on cable television station TBS and syndication on most local broadcast stations.
