Whistler was a Canadian television drama that premiered on CTV on June 25, 2006. The story takes place in Whistler, British Columbia, the co-host to the 2010 Winter Olympics. It is also home to several members of the Canadian snowboarding team.
When hometown Olympic gold medal winner Beck McKay, played by
David Paetkau, returns home, his future looks golden. His days in
The Sun end abruptly. The snowboarder dies on the slopes of Whistler leaving his brother, Quinn, played by
Jesse Moss, struggling to understand the circumstances of his death. Each step Quinn takes forward acts a ripple on a pond, bringing the secrets of family and friends to the surface.
The mystery is solved at the end of season one. The second season focuses on the complicated sub-plots of new and returning cast members with mixed results. Season 2 was unable to create sufficient interest posed by the show’s tagline, “What secrets lie beneath the snow?” Rating slipped in all markets including the United States, United Kingdom, and Poland. Efforts to increase ratings fell flat despite multiple airing of various episodes in almost every market and the program was officially cancelled in May 2008.
The Academy of Canadian Television and Cinema nominated the series for achievement in three categories in 2007.
Amanda Crew won a Leo award in 2008 for the best lead performance by a female in a dramatic series and
Jesse Moss won the award for the best male lead performance.
