Premiering on June 24, 2010 on Global in Canada and ABC in the United States, Rookie Blue is a police show that centers not solely on the crimes the police must battle, but adds to the action with seeing more than one or two stars as in other police shows. In Rookie Blue, all of the characters as a team are the crux of the show, giving it a more down-to-earth reality.
Five rookies, just out of the Police Academy, begin their careers together in the same police precinct. Youthful enthusiasm combines with the reality of life on the streets to take viewers along with them as they both lose and gain confidence in the process of gaining experience.
Rookie Blue centers on the five rookies: Andy McNally, played by Missy Peregrym; Traci Nash, played by Enuka Okuma; Gail Peck played by Charlotte Sullivan; Dov Epstein played by Gregory Smith; and Chris Diaz, played by
Travis Milne. Their interaction with the three training officers, Sam Swarek by
Ben Bass, Oliver Shaw by
Matt Gordon and Noelle Williams by
Melanie Nicholls-King grows as the rookies grow on the job.
Add Sergeant Frank Best, by
Lyriq Bent, Luke Callaghan, by
Eric Johnson, and
Jerry Barber by
Noam Jenkins and the different personalities on Rookie Blue keep viewers involved in all of their lives, both on and off duty.
