The program Roseanne was the number one sitcom in the 90s. It had the basic plot of all sitcoms; there were 2 working class parents who had money problems and kids. Now if that wasn't bad enough they also had parents in law. They struggle to find a sustainable household income which leads to many hilarious episodes. Most of the cast are considerably overweight which triggers plenty of jokes on their size. Unlike other shows of that time, Roseanne managed to joke about subjects that others would have avoided at that time. Such things as tobacco, sex, obesity and drugs were joked about and not made out to be much of a problem.
The show is named after Roseanne Harris Conner, (
Roseanne Barr). She is married to Dan Conner, (John Goodman). They have three children, Rebecca, Darlene and David Jacob or D.J.
Roseanne is a dominant, bossy, overweight mom who tries to control everyone's life around her. Especially her children, sister and husband. She is a loving mother who works hard at Wellman Plastics factory, until she quit after a quarrel with her new boss, Mr. Faber. She then moves on to fast food restaurants and bars to look for a job.
The show did very well for itself as it managed to get plenty of awards such as, a people’s choice award for favorite television program in 1989.
Roseanne Barr also managed to get 5 additional people’s choice awards for favorite female performer in a new television program, 1989.
